Chelsea Maintain Impressive Form With Dominant 3-0 Win Over Tottenham Hotspur
A second half masterclass saw Chelsea cruise to a 3-0 win over London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur at the London Stadium.
Second half goals from Thiago Silva, N’golo Kanye and Antonio Rudiger sealed a dominant win for the Blues.
Both teams came close to scoring but the first half ended goalless. Thiago Silva gave Chelsea the lead, early In the second half, courtesy of a 49th minute header from a Marcos Alonso set piece. Marcos Alonso whipped in a corner that Silva met with a downward header.
The European champions were dominant, Eric Dier clearing a close-range volley from the unmarked Alonso off the line after Cesar Azpilicueta had picked his fellow wing-back out.
Chelsea doubled their lead in fortunate fashion after 57 minutes, though, with Kante’s shot taking a huge deflection off Dier to give Lloris no chance.
Timo Werner wasted a chance to add a third Chelsea goal when he got the ball stuck under his feet after Lukaku slipped him in, before the Germany forward was denied by Lloris amid panic in the Spurs area.
Chelsea continued to test the Spurs back line and were rewarded with a third goal in the second minute of extra-time courtesy of a Antonio Rudiger goal.
Chelsea have their sights set on Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash against Aston Villa, while Spurs will be hoping to arrest their recent drop in form when they face Wolves in the Carabao Cup
