Clark Knocks FG Over Naval Base In Kano

Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark, has faulted the Federal Government’s plan to establish a Naval base in Kano.

Clark, in an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, described the plan as mission impossible.

He argued that it was nonsensical for the government to establish a naval base in a desert when it can ordinarily use the resources to improve areas that are naturally suited for such a project.

He, therefore, urged the president to have a rethink.

Apart from Clark, the Pan Niger-Delta Forum, PANDEF has described the project as another waste of the taxpayers’ money.

Recall that the Naval headquarters recently announced its intention to establish a base in Kano. Excited over the planned location, the Kano State government has already allocated about 1000acres of land for the project.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG, reports that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje had during a visit to the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo on June 5, 2021 had solicited the establishment of a naval base in Kano claiming that the state government would provide land for the project.

The governor expressed the readiness of his administration to provide befitting infrastructures for the base, when established, to ensure a good working environment for the personnel of the service who would be deployed to Kano.

The naval chief had following the visit pledged to consider the request and had set up a committee to study the proposal. As part of the Navy’s consideration, the Naval chief had also directed that the Naval Conference would hold in Kano.
