Rennes Serve Star-Studded PSG With First Ligue 1 Defeat

The star-studded PSG forward on Sunday lost its bite suffering its first defeat of the season to a hard fighting Rennes which ran away with a 2-0 victory over a team parading Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Nyemar.

PSG had entered the match on Sunday against Rennes with an eight-game winning streak in the current Ligue 1 season. The defeat, however, did not remove the Paris club from its top position at the top of Ligue 1.

The Rennes’ goals came in the two halves from Gaetan Laborde and in the second half from Flavien Tait.

The first goal came as a fantastic finish by Laborde and it was against the run of play just before the halftime whistle.

Remarkably, Laborde was also on song to provide the assist in the second half for Tait who was unmarked in the PSG eighteen-yard box.

The closest to a response from the high-profile PSG attack team was a hit at the Rennes goal post by Messi.

Messi had actually combined spectacularly at some point in the first half with Mbappe but the PSG team would be bothered by the lack of fire that came from their highly-rated team. The finishing of the PSG team at Rennes was particularly poor and without much energy with the notable exception of Mbappe.

The lack of fire in the PSG forward caused the coach to substitute Neymar with 15 minutes to go, but that did not do much as it seemed that the highly-rated team was resigned to accepting their first defeat going into the international break.
