Watford Appoint Premier League Winner, Ranieri as Head Coach

Watford have confirmed Claudio Ranieri as their new head coach on a two-year deal, following the sacking of Xisco Munoz.

69-year-old Ranieri’s last job was with Serie A side Sampdoria, whom he steered clear of relegation before securing a mid-table finish during the 2020/21 season.

He has been out of work ever since, but has now been snapped up by the Hornets.

Ranieri will be tasked with keeping Watford in the Premier League this season and he will be hoping for more success then he experienced in his last job in England with Fulham.

Taking over partway through the 2018/19 campaign, he won just three of his 17 matches in charge before being replaced by Scott Parker – who eventually took the Cottagers down.

It has not all been bad times for Ranieri in England, though. He famously led Leicester City to a seemingly impossible Premier League title in 2016 and enjoyed some success with Chelsea in the early 2000s too.

His managerial CV also includes spells with Juventus, Roma (twice) and Inter, meaning he brings serious pedigree to Vicarage Road.

Watford currently sit 15th in the Premier League with two wins, a draw and four defeats from their opening seven games. They are also out of the Carabao Cup, losing to Championship Stoke City in the third round last month.
