Former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo was on Thursday returned as the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA by the Supreme Court.

The apex court decision came after over two hours of fierce legal fireworks by lawyers over the candidature of Soludo following a case brought by a rival faction of the party led Jude Okeke.

The Okeke faction had contended with the mainstream faction of the party that has Victor Oye as chairman and Governor Willie Obiano as chairman of the Board of Trustees, BoT.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the Okeke faction had returned a one time loyalist of Obiano, Hon. Chukwuma Umeoji as its candidate.

The tussle for supremacy between the two factions had dragged up to the Supreme Court following decisions by lower courts.

In returning Soludo as the governorship candidate, the Supreme Court also returned Victor Oye as chairman of the party.

In the judgment delivered by a five-man panel of justices of the court, the appeal filed the Okeke faction against the decision of the Court of Appeal, Kano returning Oye as chairman and Soludo as candidate was was dismissed on the ground of being an abuse of court process.

Justice Mary Peter Odili, who delivered the lead judgment, also awarded N1 million as cost to be paid by Jude Okeke to APGA and Victor Oye.
