Showdown In Kwara As APC Factions Loyal To Lai Mohammed, Gov Abdulrazaq Plan Parallel Congresses
The Lai Mohammed and Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq factions of the All Progressives Congress, APC were on Friday engaged in a battle of wits ahead of predictable parallel congresses in Kwara State. The congresses are set to elect two sets of parallel state officials that would inevitably advance the crisis in the state chapter of the party to the future.
Ahead of the parallel congresses, the faction of the party loyal to Governor Abdulrazaq on Friday inaugurated the local government executives earlier elected by the group.
Before then, the governor had at a stakeholders meeting in the Government House urged his followers not to mock rivals who he said lost out in the party congresses.
Represented by his deputy, Kayode Alabi, the governor had said:
“I beg you in the name of God, when you want to rejoice, don’t use it to mock people. It is not good. It is not mature and it is not professional. If you call yourself a politician you should be able to work with the good, the bad and the ugly.
“I am begging you in the name of God, we don’t need to fight each other. If somebody at the top tells you to carry gun and fight, tell him to order his children to come and carry the gun and fight. Don’t fight on behalf of anybody. Let those who have lost out and want to fight, fight themselves. We don’t need fight in APC in Kwara state. What we need is peace. Where there is peace there will be meaningful development”, he added.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the two factions of the party had been engaged in rancour leading to the opening of a parallel secretariat by the Lai Mohammed led tendency in the state that has set the stage for parallel congresses in Kwara on Saturday.
A member of the House of Representatives, representing Ilorin East and Ilorin South, Alhaji Cook Olododo who is aligned to the Lai Mohammed faction confirmed plans for a parallel congress to Vanguard saying:
“We are prepared to hold a parallel congress tomorrow, that much I can assure you ,let’s wait and see what happens.”
Setting the stage for the mainstream of the party aligned to Governor Abdulrazaq inaugurated the local government executives aligned to the governor on Friday.
The oath was administered by a chieftain of the party, Barrister Anthony Towoju at an event witnessed by APC chieftains including the deputy governor, Kayode Alabi; members of the House of Assembly, cabinet members; party elders; and representatives of the party from Abuja.
Charging the party faithful, the chairman of the state caretaker chairman of the APC, Alhaji Abdullahi Samari congratulated the new officials on the victory they obtained at the local government congresses.
“On behalf of the leader of the party in Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, I want to congratulate our local government chairmen and secretaries on your victories at the last local government congress,” Samari said.
“This victory is a victory for all of us. Some of you contested against one another. Try to embrace everybody. Try to make peace. Try to work and make the party waxing stronger in the state,” Samari advised.
The chairmen inaugurated were: Sheu Yahaya (Asa); Abubakar Adamu Doo (Baruten); Muhammed Kudu Dumagi (Edu); Awelewa Olawale (Ekiti); Abdullateef Kadir (Ifelodun); Abeeb Ajibola (Ilorin East); Ambali Jaji (Ilorin South); Suleiman Tejidini (Ilorin West); Azeez Yakub (Irepodun); Segun Awogbade (Isin); Ismail Dio Mora (Kaiama); Adebayo Jimoh (Moro); Adekunle Moshood (Offa); Gbadebo David (Oke-Ero); Kamar Akanbi (Oyun) and Muhammed Alhaji Swasun (Patigi).
