Bayern Defender Slammed With Prison Ultimatum

Bayern Munich defender Lucas Hernandez has been given until 28 October to hand himself into prison after breaching a restraining order.

A Madrid court has hit Lucas with a prison sentence after he was found to have broken the terms of a court-ordered period away from his girlfriend, with whom he was involved in an altercation in early 2017.

Ordered to arrive in court by 19 October, the Bayern defender arrived in the early hours of Monday morning to face the charges, and the Superior Court of Justice in Madrid have now confirmed via Marca that Lucas has ten days to turn himself in.

“Lucas Françoise BH has appeared at 11:30 today, voluntarily, one day before being summoned by the Criminal Court No. 32 of Madrid, to be required to be admitted to prison for a crime of breach of the sentence,” a statement read.

“Given that the interested party has collected on October 18, 2021, the requirement to enter a penitentiary, the period of ten days for voluntary presentation in prison expires at 24:00 on Thursday, October 28.”

What complicates this matter is the fact that Lucas has appealed the sentence. The court are prepared to deliberate but that process could easily take longer than the ten days the 25-year-old has been given.

If the appeal result does not arrive in time, Lucas will still be expected to report to prison, where he would have to remain until either he is successful or has served his sentence. The idea of him spending at least some time in prison is a real possibility.

Amid all this, Lucas has remained with Bayern and played 90 minutes in his side’s 5-1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday, less than 24 hours before appearing in court.

The defender also featured for France during the recent international break. He played the entirety of the Nations League semi-final victory over Belgium before watching on from the sidelines as Les Bleus saw off Spain in the final.
