There Was Only One Recognised APC Congress In Osun- Akere
Sunday Akere the Secretary, Osun All Progressives Congress (APC) Congress Committee, has said that there was only one recognised and acknowledged state congress in the state.
He also stated that the requirements for a state congress, according to the party constitution, which included a committee to oversee the congress and umpires, security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to observe the exercise were all present.

Akere, who is a former Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Osun State, made this known in Osogbo, the state capital, on Monday during a radio current affairs programme.
Akere also maintained that in Osun, it was the APC that did its state congress and not the Ileri Oluwa group while The Osun Progressives (TOP) had a parallel congress.
He added that the party held its state congress at the Osogbo City Stadium and 1660 delegates from the wards and 180 statutory delegates were on ground to partake in the congress adding that all the committee members from the party’s National Headquarters in Abuja were present and the all the state chairmen will be sworn-in in Abuja.
While describing what The Osun Progressives (TOP) held as a charade, the Osun APC chieftain stated that the parallel congress was deceit and a carryover from the days of the party in the opposition.
Akere declared that members of TOP were bonafide members of the APC and a resolution to the matter will be sought.
He disclosed that now that the ward, local government and state congresses have been held, it is time for reconciliation
In his words, “What TOP did was to deceive the people which is a heritage of our party from our days in the opposition. They are the ones fighting themselves. TOP is just deceiving people and it’s all propaganda.
“Members of TOP are our brothers and sisters. We are one. We will never fight dirty and allow the opposition to steal this democracy from us.
“We are all politicians. We will call them to resolve the issue. We will talk to them. We will not allow break-up to happen.”
Hinting on the attack at the venue of the parallel congress on Saturday where two members were injured, Akere revealed that the APC was privy to it adding that the incident occurred as a result of disagreement as politicians.
The former Osun cabinet member also noted that one of the reasons for disagreement in the party was leadership.
“When. Rauf Aregbesola was governor, he was the leader of the party in the state according to the APC constitution. Oyetola is now the governor, it is his time to be party leader too.
“Aregbesola should be grateful to God and he should stop listening to people intent in deceiving him,” Akere said.
Meanwhile, defending the parallel congress, Kolapo Alimi, a member of Osun APC and The Osun Progressives maintained that the problem in the state chapter of the party started from the ward congress.
He stated that though the governor’s group clamoured for consensus, their aim was to impose.
He explained that TOP made it known from the onset that it was not going to be a party to imposition and insisted on an elective congress.
“State congress is a delegate congress. Delegates ought to have been elected at the ward congress,” he said.
Alimi accused Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of abusing his position as a member of the Caretaker/ Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) with the aim of seeking to be the candidate of the party in the 2022 gubernatorial election in the state.
