Orji Kalu’s Lies On His Role In Killing Third Term Laughable – Ken Nnamani
Senator Ken Nnamani has accused fellow All Progressives Congress, APC chieftain, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu of fabricating lies in his narration of the killing of the third term in the fifth Senate. Nnamani has further described the former Abia governor’s stories of how he plotted with Presidents George Bush, Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki to kill the third term as laughable, contrived and a script from a kindergarten class playbook.
Ken Nnamani in his book Standing Strong: Legislative Reforms, Third Term and other Issues of the 5th Senate said that many people falsely claimed heroic roles that they did not deserve in the killing of the third term agenda.
Observing that Orji Kalu appeared to be the most prominent of that class, Ken Nnamani in the book wrote:
Former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, appears to be in the front of the pack of those from outside the National Assembly, claiming credit for the death of third term. At different times over the years, he has told fantastic tales of the things he did to stop former president Obasanjo and his third term campaigners from succeeding.
Noting Kalu’s claims in his autobiography, My Life as previewed by The Sun, Nnamani said:
“This time, he even expanded the scope of his said contribution to the demise of the ill-fated scheme. If we go by the claims in the book, this man practically pulled down third term all by himself. By his narrative, he was a one-man squad, who got world leaders like former U.S. President George W. Bush and late South African President Nelson Mandela to move against President Obasanjo and his third term agenda.
“He claims that it was he, who told President Mandela about President Obasanjo’s third term bid, and in what appeared like an angry schoolteacher admonishing his errant pupil for some wrongdoing, Mandela called Obasanjo right there while Mr. Orji Kalu was still sitting before him, and the squirming Obasanjo quickly denied his third term ambition to pacify the glowering big brother.
Mr. Kalu also tells his readers how he spoke with then-U.S. President George W. Bush, who directly assured him that third term “would not happen.”
“Wow! I must be the only one who didn’t know how important this man was in the scheme of things in Nigeria at that time that he could speak to presidents around the world on behalf of the Nigerian people and conversely, that our president would woo foreign presidents to help solicit his support.
I admit that I do not know Mr. Kalu well, but frankly, his narrative of the said events are quite laughable. They read like a script from the playbook of a kindergarten class. Anyone would be forgiven for admitting that they smell contrived, even manufactured, for a purpose only he can tell.
Also laughable is his other claim in his fantastic book that Senator Mantu told him and members of his touted cult of anti-third term heroes not to trust me with information regarding their so-called activities to scuttle third term because “I swim on both sides of the Atlantic,” whatever that means.
Senator Nnamani’s book is to be launched on Thursday, October 21 in Abuja.
