Lukaku, Werner Out As Chelsea Look To Maintain Lead Against Norwich
Reigning European champions Chelsea will be without strikers Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner as the Blues welcome 20th-placed Norwich to Stamford Bridge in an early 12.30 pm kick off on Saturday.
Lukaku and Werner were subbed out with injuries in Chelsea’s 4-0 midweek thrashing of Malmo in the Champions League.
Both teams come into the fixture with contasting fortunes, as Chelsea sit pretty in 1st place on the Premier League table, with 19 points from eight games, while Norwich have had a disastrous campaign so far, with a paltry two points from eight games.
Speaking on his options ahead of the match, Chelsea boss Tuchel hinted that Kai Harvertz will lead the line against the Canaries.
‘Without Romelu we can play with Kai as a number nine. For me it’s not so much of a false nine. Kai is also very strong in the last line and behind the last line arriving in the box. When he plays as a number nine we want this from him, and he did that against Malmo”. Tuchel said in his pre-match press conference.
‘The game will be a bit different without Romelu, but we want the same power, the same amount of people in the same spaces when we finish our attacks.’
Victory for Chelsea will see Tuchel’s men maintain top spot in the League while defeat will consign Norwich to further misery, with the Canaries looking set for another relegation battles, losing six matches with two draws and no win in eight attempts.
