Breaking: EFCC Arrests Obi Cubana

Billionaire club owner, Obi Cubana who in 2021 burst into the national consciousness as a symbol of opulence after what was supposed to be a solemn burial for his mother has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He was reported to have been reported at about noon and taken to the commission’s headquarters in the Jabi area of Abuja.

 GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Obi Cubana entered the nation’s psyche earlier in the year when he organized an opulent burial ceremony for his mother.

He is allegedly being held over alleged money laundering and tax fraud charges.

The development is bound to unsettle the consciousness and bring to question the integrity question around the opulent and lavish lifestyle that the name, Obi Cubana has come to symbolize in the country.

Meanwhile, besides the news of the EFCC arrest of Obi Cubana, the commission also on Monday arraigned one Bamidele Ahmed Salami before Justice Darius Khobo of the Kaduna State High Court, Kaduna for allegedly obtaining money by false pretence.

Trouble started for Bamidele, when the Kaduna Zonal Command received a petition from one Tolutope Helen Ogunbodede alleging that sometime in 2020, the suspect who is a business associate approached her to invest in an investment scheme with a promise to pay back by installments in six months.

The complainant transferred the sum of N2, 240,848.00 into the defendant’s account. But nine months after the payment, no payment was received by the complainant hence the petition to the EFCC.

In the course of investigation, the defendant returned the sum of N568, 000 to the complainant.
