3 Females Included As Lagos Building Collapse Death Toll Hits 36

The death toll from the Lagos building collapse of last Monday has risen to 36 with the confirmation of three ladies among the dead.

 GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the latest details from the rescue operation at the site of the 21-storey building collapse in Ikoyi, Lagos on Thursday morning did not yield news of any survivor.

Only nine persons have been rescued from the debris since last Tuesday. The latest casualty figure given by officials of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA showed that a total of 36 bodies comprising 33 males and three females have been brought out.

One female was among the nine survivors that were brought out alive.

The high rise building under construction located along Gerrard Road in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre collapsed on Monday afternoon. It was promised to be an opulent home for the rich with each flat reportedly going for N2.6 billion.

The Acting Coordinator of the Lagos Territorial Office of the National Emergency Management Agency, ( NEMA) Mr Ibrahim Farinloye gave the latest details on the rescue operations on Tuesday morning.

The rise of the death toll from the Lagos building collapse to 36 with many still unaccounted for is bound to unsettle many.

 GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the rescue operations were suspended at about 2.00 a.m. on Thursday morning and resumed at about 8.00 a.m. when the casualty figures were given.

Meanwhile relatives of the victims have continued to mount vigil at the site of the collapsed building with a number of them seated on benches along Gerrard Road.
