A 26-year-old Kano man and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Amir Sarkee, has explained why he is aspiring to be the National Woman leader of the party.

Amir Sarkee who is a polytechnic graduate and is unmarried had also in the past sought to be the Woman Leader of the Kwankwasiyya Group, a political pressure group loyal to the immediate past governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Kwankwanso.

Speaking to the BBC on his intentions, Sarkee said:

”Some people ask me why I am running for the post and my answer is ‘God created men to guide the affairs of women. So it is not a bad thing for me to want to lead women especially given that I mean well for them.” he said

Ameer said he was hopeful that the APC women will agree to his campaign to be the woman leader of the party as he noted the mixed reaction of women to his aspiration.

The Kano man further explaining his bid to be the national woman leader of the APC lamented that many of the women see him as usurping the position that is meant for a woman.

“The biggest challenge I face is gaining the trust of women; some are jealous of seeing me lead them, others think I’m going to take what belongs to them but it’s not,” Ameer said.

He also noted that many women have also been very supportive of his aspiration.

“At the same time I am getting encouragement from women, even yesterday some women’s groups came to show their support for me and many of them are supporting me on social media” he said

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that his emergence would not be wholly abnormal in the political terrain. In the National Assembly, men have in the past been appointed as chairman of the committee on women Affairs.
