UNILORIN expels student

The final year Microbiology student of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Salaudeen Waliu, who beat up a female lecturer of the school has been expelled with immediate effect.

He has also been handed over to the police and been sternly warned to keep off from the university following his action against the lecturer, Rahmat Zakariyau

UNILORIN spokesman Kunle Akogun, confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday.

 GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Waliu was reported to have beaten a female lecturer of the school to coma after she declined his appeal to waive a mandatory SIWES course which he missed allegedly because he was in police detention.

The decision to summarily expel Waliu was taken by the university’s Student Disciplinary Committee, SDC following the incident which happened last week.

The letter expelling Waliu gave him a 48-day grace period to appeal the decision.

The letter read thus:

“You will recall that you appeared before the student disciplinary committee (SDC) to defend yourself in respect of an allegation of misconduct leveled against you.

“After due consideration of all evidence before it, the committee was convinced beyond any reasonable doubt that the allegation of misconduct has been established against you.

“It has accordingly recommended to the Vice-Chancellor, who in the exercise of the power conferred on him, has directed that you Salaudeen, Waliu Aanuoluwa be expelled from the university.

“Accordingly, you are hereby expelled from the University with immediate effect.

“You are required to submit forthwith, all University property in your custody including your Student Identity Card to the Dean of Student Affairs or his representative and keep off the campus.

“In case you are dissatisfied with this decision, you are free to appeal to the University Council through the Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences to the vice-chancellor within forty-eight (48) days of the date of this letter.”

The decision by UNILORIN to expel the student it was gathered followed mutterings from lecturers to decisively deal with the case to avoid a repeat.
