Man United's Greenwood Tests Positive For COVID-19

Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss the match against Watford on Saturday, as well as further upcoming games over the next 10 days.

Solskjaer confirmed to MUTV prior to kick-off at Vicarage Road that Greenwood’s absence was from the squad was down to testing positive for the virus.

The necessary period of isolation likely rules Greenwood out of United’s games for the rest of the month, which includes a crucial Champions League group match against Villarreal and a visit to Premier League leaders Chelsea.

He should, however, be available to return by the time United host Arsenal on 2 December.

“Mason has got Covid, unfortunately. He was positive. We’ll wait for him when he gets back,” Solskjaer explained ahead of the crucial match against the Hornets.

Greenwood has endured a mixed season in 2021/22. He started the campaign in blistering goalscoring form, leading the line as a ‘number nine’ and scoring three goals in United’s opening three Premier League games.

The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo at the end of the summer transfer window has since seen the 20-year-old revert to role on the right flank he occupied for much of last season. The goals have understandably dried up a bit since that switch, only netting once more.
