Gbenga Aluko dead

Senator Gbenga Aluko has died in Abuja after reportedly slumping in his Abuja office. He was said to have been rushed to a hospital where he was confirmed dead of a yet-to-be-disclosed cause.

It was being suspected that the senator died of a heart attack. He was aged 58.

Senator Aluko was elected to the Senate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to represent Ekiti State in 1999 and had the unique distinction of being the youngest senator from the Southwest and the only one elected on the platform of the PDP from the Southwest.

He, however, served for one term having served as the deputy whip of the Senate.

The late Senator Aluko was also the son of the deceased erudite economist, Prof Sam Aluko.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the Ode-Ekiti-born politician was also a grassroots politician who was able to worm his way into the hearts of his people through alleviating their needs especially through the provision of water.

Following his one term in the Senate the brainy senator moved over to the private sector and worked as a government liaison for Chevron. In latter years he made efforts to return to politics to contest for governor of Ekiti State but was not successful.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that he was the nominee of the Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC for the position of Deputy National Chairman of the party.
