Relief As Kaduna Restores Telecom Services

Kaduna Abduction Teacher Speaks

Residents of the different towns locked away from telecom services in Kaduna State have been responding with relief to the government’s decision to restore the services on Friday.

The Kaduna State government shut down telecommunication services in some parts of the state for almost two months following heightened insecurity to curtail the activities of bandits in the state.

Briefing newsmen on Friday in Kaduna, the state Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan explained that the state had during the shut down of telecommunications services recorded a lot of success against the activities of the bandits.

Residents who spoke to newsmen on the restoration of the telecommunication services expressed satisfaction with the decision.

Mr Mathew Adamu said, “It is my conviction that during the period that the telecommunication services were shut down, the security agencies recorded lots of success in bringing the activities of bandits in parts of the state under control. We need peace all over, not only in Kaduna State but all over the country.

“The shut down of the telecommunication services in the state really affected business activities but with the restoration of the network, we are believing that people will be able to carry out their legitimate activities without much hindrance by men of the underworld.”

Hajia Hassana Mohammed, a trader, on her part, said it was a moment of joy seeing the restoration of the telecommunication services to help residents communicate freely and conduct their business activities and the way forward for their lives, stressing that the shut down of the network really affected people in all spheres of life.

She added, “You discovered that during the shut down of the network, you could see people running to places where they can get network. Others had network designated places within their communities where they can get network and you see people standing in such places to communicate to their loved ones. I am happy that the state government has finally released the telecommunication services and l am hoping that there will be more movement without much hindrance by bandits for people to be able to carry out their activities.”

Peter John responding to the decision to restore telecom services to Kaduna said: “I have been making calls to places l know experienced the shut down to confirm that their networks have been released as I heard on the news yesterday being Friday. I prayed that the security agencies are now on top of the security challenges in the state so that people will be able to go about their normal businesses.”

Many others who spoke with DAILY POST thanked the state government for restoring the telecommunication services to the people, saying it has proven how the government has a listening ear to the cries of the people.

Madam Eunice Yakubu, a resident said, the restoration of the telecommunication services is a good omen and a signal of better things coming the way of the people in the state and the country at large.
