Ojukwu Memorial: Bianca Slams Southeast Governors, Wants Nnamdi Kanu Freed

Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, former Nigerian Ambassador to Spain has  joined the roll call of Igbo people calling for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) just as she on Friday slammed Southeast governors for forgetting the memory of her late husband, and former Biafran leader, Dim Emeka Ojukwu

Mrs Ojukwu spoke during the tenth memorial celebration of her husband late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu on Friday in Owerri.

The event was organised by Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, the leader of Movement for the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and Biafra Independence Movement (BIM).

The window of Ojukwu said Mr President should consider the age and caliber of the Igbo personalities who recently visited him to appeal on behalf of Kanu.

She noted that releasing Kanu would bring peace, stability and security in the area.

Mrs Ojukwu said what fuelled agitation against magnalization by some sections in the country was inequality in the distribution of the nation’s resources and positions.

“As presently constituted, the South-East geo-political zone is the only area that has not produced a representative in any of the security formations.

“The zone is also excluded from the investment being made in the railway while some many other critical infrastructure like roads are in bad shape”, she said.

Ojukwu’s widow said she was thankful to Chief Uwazuruike for consistently holding memorial celebration for her late husband in the past ten years.

“My late husband was former governor of old Eastern Region which today comprises of five states of Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Enugu and Imo, yet it is only Uwazuruike that remembers my late husband”, Bianca Ojukwu said as she slammed the Southeast governors for forgetting the memory of the former Biafran leader.

Dr Nkem Okeke, deputy governor of Anambra who also attended the event said the people of South-East geo-political zone need to come together to tackle challenges.

Okeke who described Ojukwu as a man of strength and integrity said all Igbo people need to sustain and celebrate his good ideals.

Prof. Proteus Uzoma, a guest speaker at the event stressed the need for the federal government to arrange a roundtable discussion to address challenges plaguing the nation.

Mr Ahamefule Ojukwu, son of the deceased who chaired the event said his father lived for humanity and should be remembered even in death.
