Anger has swelled up across the country at the management of Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos following the release of a video on Thursday that showed the now late 12- year-old student of the school, Sylvester Oromoni, in severe discomfort and pain.

The heartwrenching video shows Oromoni with a bruised mouth, moaning in pain while being comforted by his mother who prayed to God for justice.

Young Sylvester had earlier accused his Dowen College schoolmates of beating him up for refusing to join a cult, which led to sustaining injuries and ultimately his death

Oromoni’s death was brought to public knowledge by a family member, who tweeted about the death of the 12-year-old student from the injuries he sustained while he was beaten up by students

Oromoni also went on to identify five students who partook in the savage act.

Following the accusation, Dowen College on Thursday afternoon released a statement denying the family member’s accusation that Sylvester Oromoni died from injuries sustained from the torture he received from his mates. The school claimed that investigations carried out showed he sustained an injury in a football match, which led to his unfortunate demise.

In reaction to the statement, heartwrenching videos were released, showing Sylvester Oromoni in severe pain and unable to move his legs.

Following the release of the video, Nigerians took to social media to vent at Dowen College, with the majority calling for the school to be immediately shut down over the death of Oromoni, while an independent investigation is carried out.

Anger was thick in the air, with some users calling for a protest to Dowen College, others called on parents who have wards in Dowen College to speak up, while some called for the prosecution of the students, a select few went as far as calling for the bullies to suffer the same fate as their victim.

Leading the calls for a protest over the death of Oromoni

@TheAjibolaGrey ARE WE LEADING A PROTEST TO DOWEN COLLEGE OR WHAT???? BECAUSE I AM DOWN AS FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!

@SamuelOtigba Nahhh, just watched the videos. We are matching to Dowen! IDC

@lollypeezle Walahi, God knows that Dowen College won’t open again until they reveal the truth and bear the brunt of everything. You can’t treat my nephew like that, you will collect legally, physically, and spiritually. Watching the videos, ara mi bu mo also

@PoojaMedia A serious country will shut down Dowen first so that they won’t be able to cover anything, external investigations where the schools & alleged students will be invited for questioning. Other parents must act cos it could be their kid as well. Justice must be served!

@DrOlufunmilayo I just watched the little boy that was killed in Dowen School. In a sane country: 1. There must be an immediate compulsory autopsy by an independent medical expert. 2. The school must be shut down. 3. All the perpetrators arrested. 4. The school authorities must be investigated.

@Sujodamystique My blame rests mostly with the Dowen School Management. If there’s cultism in a secondary school, boarding for that matter that means they either Are aware, and didn’t take strong enough steps to curb it Or Are not aware, and in that case are too negligent to run a school

Speaking on a possible attempt to cover up the death of Sylvester Oromoni,

@ManLikeIcey DOWEN COLLEGE IN LEKKI SHOULD EXPLAIN TO THE WORLD HOW A 12 YEAR OLD BOY WAS KILLED IN THE SCHOOL BY HIS FELLOW STUDENTS. THIS COVER UP WILL NOT WORK. HE MUST GET JUSTICE OR THE SCHOOL SHOULD SUSPEND IT EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES.

@thesheddyking I keep saying it sha, if I was directly involved in the Dowen issue, the only time the news will reach twitter is after the police arrests me for one or two But that’s just me.

@Ore_akiinde Unfortunately karma doesn’t exist those students, other bullies and then entire lying ass dowen college will get away with this deed, if justice isn’t served. And this justice need to be fast.

@mrmacaronii I deeply sympathize with the family of Sylvester Oromoni. I Just saw the video that was recorded before he died. He couldn’t move, mouth swollen, teeth bleeding.. Football injuries don’t cause that much pain!!! Dowen college, there are a lot of questions begging to be answered.

@AjAdonai I’ve came to realize that there’s really no value for life in Nigeria. Couple of weeks back, they killed someone in Ife, till date nothing happened. Now it’s this Dowen case and the people suppose to protect others are acting like they’re blind. Country on cruise control.
