The swearing-in of Babajide Akeredolu as the Director-General of the Ondo State Performance and Project Implementation Monitoring Unit (PPIMU), by his father, the Executive Governor of the state has elicited varying reactions from Nigerians.

Governor Akeredolu on Monday swore in his son, Babajide as the DG, PPIMU, alongside 14 Commissioners and Seven Special Advisers.

According to Gov Akeredolu, the PPMIU’s mandate is to recalibrate his administration’s development agenda, and assist in ensuring value for all resources deployed by the government.

The agency will design and implement project management monitoring, and evaluation platform for the governor’s office to coordinate, monitor, and evaluate the execution of the Ondo State 8-point agenda.

Speaking on why he appointed his son as DG, PPIMU, Gove Akeredolu said, “This administration has been engaging members of the young generation on whose tender shoulders the future of this great country rests. We will continue to engage worthy youths regardless of the degree of affinity or otherwise. Only the fit and proper will join us.

“It is our resolve to invite anyone with the requisite expertise to solve specific problems. We are indeed lucky that amidst the plenitude of highly qualified men and women in the state, we have been able to choose the members of the state executive council.”

The appointment of Babajide Akeredolu split social media users into different camps. The first camp slammed the decision, lamenting how politics has been converted to family business.

The other camp, saw nothing wrong in the appointment, claiming they would have done same if they were in Gov Akeredolu’s shoes. While the final camp feel that there is nothing wrong with the appointment, so far he is qualified.
