Tinubu gaffes

The truth about an alleged meeting between Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and northern elders supposedly organized to mobilise for the 2023 presidential aspiration of the former Lagos State governor and national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC has emerged.

Senator Abu Ibrahim, a long time friend of Tinubu’s flowing to more than 30 years and generally recognized in some circles as the former governor’s pointsman in the North who was alleged to have organized the meeting has debunked that any such meeting held.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Senator Abu Ibrahim from Katsina State and Senator Tinubu forged their relationship when both men were in the Third Republic Senate and have since then maintained a fraternal relationship.

Perhaps based on the relationship between the two men it was easy for some to tie the alleged meeting between Tinubu and the Northern elders to Senator Abu Ibrahim.

However, denying the claim in a statement made available to  GreenWhiteGreen GWG, Senator Abu Ibrahim issued by his spokesman, Otunba Biodun Ajiboye said:

“We have seen an untitled, unsigned and absolutely fake post circulating on Whatsapp, alleging that Senator Abu Ibrahim organised a meeting of Northern Elders for Asíwájú Bola Tinubu, where issues of his yet undeclared presidential ambition were discussed.

“The viral post claimed that Tinubu at the meeting insisted on picking a Muslim from the North-West as running mate while discontenancing the votes from the South-South and South-East.

“Ordinarily, Senator Abu Ibrahim would not have dignified this groundless report with a response, but for fear that some unwary may not see through the mischief intended for an ambition that is yet to be declared, the Senator would like to state as follows:

*That he didn’t convene any meeting of Northern elders for Asíwájú Tinubu or for anyone for that matter.

*That no meeting of Northern elders ever took place as claimed. And as an elder in the North, he should know if there would be any such meeting.

*That he has been friends with Asíwájú Tinubu for over 30 years and knows Asíwájú Tinubu well enough to know he would not operate on the basis of religion or ethnicity should he decide to contest for the presidency.

*That Asíwájú Tinubu would not discountenance any region or group of people as the fake post seemed to present him if he decides to throw his hat in the ring.

“Asíwájú is a nationalist who has built bridges across the various regions and has friends in equal measure from the South-east and South- South as well as the three geopolitical zones in the North- North-west, North-east and North-central.

“We know those behind the post. While we will refrain from naming them, we will appeal to them to at least wait for the process to begin before they begin their disingenuous campaigns of hate and calumny.

We urge our people to disregard the post for what it is: fake and unfounded.”
