Lamentations As Shot Delta Lawmaker Dies

Hon Victor Ofobrukueta, a lawmaker in the Ethiope-East Local Government Council has died after he was shot by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen a week ago.

He died a week after he was allegedly shot by gunmen suspected to be killer Fulani herdsmen, along the Eku/Abraka road in Ethiope-East Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was learnt that the Councillor died in a hospital where was receiving medical treatment in Warri.

The Council was thrown into a state of mourning when the news filtered into the area in the early hours of today.

The deceased represented the people of Ward 17 Ovu-Inland and was allegedly shot by gunmen on his way back from a function.

Meanwhile the news of the death of the lawmaker shot by gunmen came Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has forwarded an executive bill to the state House of Assembly seeking a legislative backing to contain the increasing spate of oil theft in the state.

The bill titled “A Bill for a Law for the Delta State Forfeiture Law and other Matters connected therewith,” was contained in a letter by the governor which was read during plenary by the Speaker of the House, Sheriff Oborevwori.

According to the governor in the letter, the losses as a result of oil theft coupled with high cost of production, “have hampered the nation’s earnings from oil which invariably is affecting the states, Delta inclusive.

“Regrettably, experience has shown that the illegal storage of crude oil are perpetuated using property such as premises, caravans, vehicles, vessels, aircraft and other forms of containers.
