Buhari Vows Neutrality In Ganduje, Shekarau Fight For Kano APC Structure

President Muhammadu Buhari has strongly dissociated himself from any of the two major factions of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Kano State led by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau.

The president’s disavowal of the two factions followed a meeting he had with the chairman of the faction aligned to Senator Shekarau on Saturday, Ahmadu Haruna Zago.

Zago had following the meeting claimed that though the president did not discuss the party crisis with him because the issues are in court, he, however, in another breath said that the president congratulated on his emergence as chairman of the party against the desire of Governor Ganduje.

 GreenWhiteGreen GWG had in the past reported Zago to be a personal political associate of Buhari’s with a relationship forged in the years that the two men were members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, CPC.

However, rebuffing the claims that President Buhari was aligned or supportive of any of the factions of the APC in Kano, Mallam Garba Shehu in a statement made available to  GreenWhiteGreen GWG said:

“The Presidency wishes to counter a public statement by one of the factions of the All Progressives Congress in Kano State, that they have received the endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“This is blatantly untrue. This cannot happen when matters are awaiting adjudication by the courts.

“To be clear on this one, President Buhari has not endorsed any faction.

“His support is for the All Progressives Congress as a Party, united and strong, and not of any faction.”

Speaking to the BBC Hausa Service after the meeting with Buhari Zago had said that President Buhari congratulated him on his emergence as APC chairman in Kano saying:

“He asked me about what is happening in Kano, and I told him that we have formed the APC leadership in the state… he congratulated me,” Danzago said.

He, however, in the same breath said they did not discuss the party’s crisis in Kano with the president, saying “since the matter is in court we have not discussed it. You know the president will not be involved in a matter that is before the court.”
