2023: Tinubu’s Chief Prayer Warrior Vibrates On Muslim-Muslim Ticket

When last weekend it emerged that one of the once very promising political Turks from Northern Nigeria, Alhaji Abdulmumin Jibrin had announced himself as chairman of all support groups for the Asiwaju Bola Tinubu 2023 political agenda, it became a political fascination for many on account of his controversial background. It was indeed an irony that Jibrin outed himself in the Tinubu campaign when he mobilized 2,500 Imams for a prayer session for Tinubu’s 2023 aspiration.

The resort to prayers was a significant turnaround for a man whose political career has been laced with much belligerence.

Jibrin came into national attention as chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation when the budget padding controversy stirred up in 2016. He had been elected to the House to represent the Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, Kano State. The padding controversy forced him to exit the position but not without fighting.

As chairman as the Director General,  Tinubu Support Groups  Management Council, Jibrin told newsmen that he is to superintend over the hundreds of support groups that have arisen to support the emergence of Tinubu as president. He comes to that position with a string of luck.

In the House of Representatives, Jibrin served as campaign manager to the winners of the last two leadership contests. It is alleged that he was the main person that stopped Femi Gbajabiamila emerging as Speaker in 2015.

According to political anecdotes, Gbajabiamila had dismissed his capacity during the 2015 contest, and he as such moved towards the Yakubu Dogara camp and contributed immensely in the enthronement of Dogara as Speaker.

He, however, fell out with Dogara over the budget padding controversy and laid low till the 2019 leadership contest when a wiser Gbajabiamila now recruited him.

However, he stayed very briefly as his election to the House of Representatives was annulled by the courts in 2019. His attempt in the re-election failed after it was claimed that the camp of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje sabotaged him despite being the APC candidate in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate.

He is however, now said to be back into the camp of Ganduje and there are speculations that Ganduje facilitated his new job as an executive director in the Federal Housing Authority.

Some Takeaways On Tinubu And Jibrin

• Jibrin is working with Ganduje on the same goal of enthroning Tinubu as president despite the fact that they apparently fell out last year after he was stopped from returning to the House of Representatives.
• Jibrin has said that Tinubu would have a Muslim running mate from the North, and thus a Muslim-Muslim ticket that is bound to stir the kind of controversy that Jibrin is used to.
• If Tinubu emerges as APC presidential candidate, the suggestion of a Muslim-Muslim ticket would be hard to sell and such the prospects of having a Christian running mate from the North. One of the speculated running mates is Yakubu Dogara, the very man that Jibrin fought with in the House of Representatives.

Willy-nilly, Jibrin is back to the court of controversy where he has thrived. Remarkably, Jibrin started it with a prayer session and Tinubu has latched to a man who has a knack for turning in good results for others, but poor in keeping office and relationships!
