Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that striker Romelu Lukaku will be fined for his controversial unsanctioned interview.

The Belgian has now apologised for his comments, which included voicing concerns over his situation at Stamford Bridge and a desire to return to former club Inter while he is still in the prime of his career.

Tuchel is keen to move on from the drama now, but did confirm that Lukaku will be fined as one last punishment for his actions.

“There will be some disciplinary action and he will accept it,” Tuchel told The Athletic

“It happened and it’s not a small thing. But it’s not the biggest thing and does not make a comeback impossible, absolutely not. This is what we [will] prove now.

“But, something happened. He will be fined and of course, he needs to accept it.”

While there was no formal mention of the size of the fine, reports in Italy have suggested Lukaku will be docked anywhere between €500,000 and €600,000 – roughly two weeks’ wages.
