Tuchel Reacts As Manchester City Ride Over Chelsea For 12 Straight Win
Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel has said that Chelsea will not give up the hunt for the league trophy after the team fell to Manchester City in the reverse league fixture at the Etihad Stadium.
For Manchester City it was the 12 straight win for the English premiership side. The pivotal moment in the closely fought encounter came when Kevin De Bruyne produced a moment of world-class quality to tighten the team’s stranglehold on the Premier League title race with a curve that beat the Chelsea defence line.
The former Chelsea player broke the deadlock in a tight game with a superb curling drive past keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga with 20 minutes left to extend City’s lead at the top of the table to an imposing 13 points.
Chelsea had their chances, the best coming when Ederson saved from Romelu Lukaku in the second half but De Bruyne made the difference and City now also have a 14-point advantage over Liverpool, who have two games in hand.
City deserved the win for their greater urgency and possession, Kepa keeping out Jack Grealish with a first-half save, and this represents another significant stride in their quest to retain the Premier League crown.
Speaking after the match, Chelsea coach, Tuchel asked if the team would surrender the league pursuit to Manchester City said that he would not give up but that if the defending champions keep winning then there was nothing that the London side could do.
He said:
“It is not my question to answer but we will never give up, but if City keep on winning every game nobody can catch them.”
Earlier the manager had expressed concern over Romelu Lukaku’s failure to connect with the midfield saying that there were glaring chances of lack of ball control on the path of the Chelsea striker.
Meanwhile, the North London derby between Tottenham Hotspurs and Arsenal has been postponed following a request by Arsenal on account of depletion of its players following a string of COVID-19 positives.
