For some years now, the outbreak of Lassa Fever  about this time has been common  in several states of Nigeria leading to deaths.  Rodents usually find their way to a living house and contaminate human food with their faeces and urine.  We therefore  need to deal with rodents before they destroy us.  If you have rodents such as rats around your house or compound, the following methods would help you  eliminate them.

Use traps or boxes to kill or capture rats

One type of trap is called a snap trap. This  has been described as  one of the more humane ways to kill rats because it is such a quick kill.

Use smoke bombs

This is the best solution if you see burrows created by rats in your backyard. The way to tell if the burrow was created by a rat and not another animal is to look at the way the rodent created the hole. If there is a lot of loose soil and the hole was created at an angle, then that was most likely created by a rat. However, you can’t use smoke bombs if the burrow is near a tree, porch or other flammable structure.

Bait stations

The station does not trap the rat. Instead, it contains a rodenticide that lures the rodent into the entrance of the station. The rat enters, eats some of the bait, and leaves through the station’s exit hole, then it dies (hopefully outdoors away from the house,

Use natural deterrent methods

When it comes to getting rid of rats, a few simple, natural ingredients can go a long way. You can use the following natural option like the spread of peppermint oil, black pepper or clove  around the home’s exterior to prevent the rats from entering the house in the first place.

Apply your substance of choice generously along the line between your foundation and the ground. In addition, you can sprinkle crushed pepper  near rat openings and holes. This will irritate the rats’ noses and airways and discourage them from reentering your home.

Clean up

Keep all trash and food in closed bins, clean up any spills rapidly, and keep your pipes and drains clean.
