New Issues On Okowa’s Successor In Delta

Senator Ifeanyi Okowa on the occasion of his family thanksgiving last Tuesday came out like never before to put forward issues about his successor as governor of Delta State.

The issues came against the background of echoes of a split between the governor and his onetime political boss and former governor of the state, Chief James Ibori.

 GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the alleged split was shadowed by reports among some political stakeholders that the governor was days earlier not invited to the birthday of Ibori’s wife an occasion that drew major political gladiators from within and outside the state.

However, the tone and text of Okowa’s thanksgiving did not convey the nature of one under pressure. Rather, Okowa showed grit and grace as he thanked God and showed an uncanny determination to ensure a smooth transition to a new administration.

Okowa May Not Be Opposed To Power Shift To Delta Central

 GreenWhiteGreen GWG findings reveal that Okowa may have silently quashed, and where not, refused the supplication of the Ijaw to support the next governor comes from Delta South.

If that is pleasing to the Urhobo in Delta Central what is, however, now in dispute is who in Delta Central would fit the governor’s idea of a successor.

God, Not Ibori Would Determine Successor

Okowa said that his successor would be determined by God; that means that it would not be a man like Ibori.

He said; “finishing strong is about being able to reach out to the people to lay the foundation that people can build upon and told Deltans to pray for the Will of God to be done in the state ahead of the 2023 governorship election in the state.

Okowa Will Not Be Pushed By Any Man Against God’s Will On His Successor

Noting that he will not be pushed by anyone to pander towards any agenda that is not towards the will of God, he said:

“As a man, I will also try to avoid people pushing me to a direction that God is not pleased with because if God has made a choice and we go in the wrong direction, it will not augur well for the state.”

“But one thing is sure, whoever will succeed me must be one who keeps the fire in this altar burning, and God must direct me on the choice of the person. I can never take the place of God in deciding who will succeed me; I will pray for God to direct me and not man, so that I don’t go in the wrong direction”.

Okowa Will Deal With Anyone Hindering His Government

The dissolution of the cabinet last year was a clear move by the governor to cut down on distractions against his government. It was as such no surprise that while recognizing that 2022 is a year for much politicking, he nevertheless insisted that he would not allow politics to distract him.

“We are not stopping people from playing politics but we need to realise that there is a purpose and we must remain loyal and committed to governance until May 29, 2023.

‘’This is a year of politics and as politicians we cannot avoid it; pray with us, pray for us and pray about the state.

“Whatever positions we are contesting for, let us seek the face of God because if you genuinely pray, God will reveal His will for you.”
