It has emerged that Nigeria’s foremost microfinance institution, LAPO Microfinance Bank, in 2021 won several iconic awards from reputable organizations for its accomplishments in several areas.

The categories of awards range from those acknowledging LAPO’s high performance among other microfinance institutions to awards recognizing its excellence in specific areas such as agriculture and education, as well as those that celebrate LAPO’s policies and achievements in line with global standards of gender equity, among others.

The long list of awards won by LAPO in 2021 include:

1)           Most Supportive Bank- National Category in the Central Bank, Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme Funds (ACGSF) 2021.

2)           FITC Awards for Excellence (FAFE) “Product Innovation Award” Other Financial Institution Category

3)           Best National Microfinance Bank (Pro-Masses): Local Government Economic Summit Awards 2021

4)           Most Women Centric Microfinance Bank 2021; Women in Marketing Communications Awards (WIMCA) 2021

5)           Microfinance Bank of the Year 2014-2021 (8th Consecutive times): Businessday Banks and Other Financial Institutions (BAFI) Awards

6)           Most outstanding Microfinance Bank with Highest Disbursement count to women and youths 2020: Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN) Awards.

7)           Award of Merit- Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund: for consistent contribution to tertiary education through the payment of education tax- 2021

8)           Most Supportive Microfinance Bank in Nigeria 2020 award – Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN)

9)          Best Supportive Agricultural and Agric-Business Support Microfinance Bank: Nigeria Farmers Award (Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development

Expectedly, some of the awards take into account the performance of the recipients in the face of the disruptive Covid-19 pandemic. For example, since the pandemic began in 2020, it has been a key factor for the Microfinance Bank of the Year prize in Businessday’s BAFI Awards which LAPO has won 8th Consecutive times.

“While it has been another challenging year for corporate organizations and the customers we serve, the management and staff of LAPO MFB is gratified by this bumper harvest of awards,” said LAPO MFB’s Managing Director Cynthia Ikponmwosa of the 2021 awards.
