Djokovic takes vaccine

Tennis star, Novak Djokovic could be taking the COVID-19 vaccine anytime soon after missing out from the Australian Open with the prospects of being fenced out from other tournaments, his biographer has said.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Djokovic was deported from Australia after losing out in a fight with the country’s authorities in his bid to compete in the Australian Open as an unvaccinated person.

In his absence, Rafael Nadal won a record 21st Grand Slam at the Australian Open last January.

The development and additional requirements by other tournament organisers on competitors to be vaccinated appear to have changed the permutations for Djokovic according to his biographer, Daniel Muksch.

Speaking on Austrian TV channel ServusTV he said: ‘What you hear from his environment, I think he’s getting vaccinated.

‘Maybe the final in Melbourne also contributed to that. Rafael Nadal’s 21 is driving him, no question,’ he said of the apparent inclination by Djokovic to now take the vaccine.

Muksch’s book on Djokovic, called ‘A Lifetime At War’, comes out in March.

Nadal had clinched the Australian Open title after he defeated World No 2 Daniil Medvedev in a thrilling final last Sunday.

Novak Djokovic fenced out of the tournament on account of the vaccine fight, however, took to social media to congratulate Nadal, saying: ‘Congratulations to @RafaelNadal for 21st GS.

‘Amazing achievement. Always impressive fighting spirit that prevailed another time.

‘@Medwed33 (Medvedev’s social media handle) gave it his all out there and played with the passion and determination we have come to expect from him.’
