Six Key Facts From Tottenham Double Over Manchester City
By Eze Dike
Harry Kane fired Tottenham to a 2-3 win against Manchester City at the Etihad, netting a brace to keep their top four hopes alive and outlining six key facts unknown to many.
Manchester City came into the game off the back of an impressive run of fixtures that have seen them unbeaten in the Premier League for the last nine matches, and a win would have seen them go nine points clear of second placed Liverpool and in pole position to win their seventh League title.
Spurs on the other hand came into the game on the back of a three game losing string that is the worst in fifteen years in coach Antonio Conte’s career.
New signing Dejan Kulusevski put the visitors ahead after a lightning counter attack broke down City’s defence and gave Spurs an early lead in the 4th minute.
Hugo Lloris made a costly error in Spurs’ last league loss to Wolves and the Frenchman was the villain again as he dropped the ball to the feet of Ilkay Gundogan who snatched home the opportunity and levelled the game for the defending champions. Spurs claimed a deserved win away at the home of the League leaders as they snapped up a 3-2 victory in the second half to seal a Premier League classic courtesy of two Harry Kane goals.
The Englishman who was on the verge of joining the Cityzens in the summer, proved just why he was their number one target putting in a man of the match performance to reignite a chase for Champions League qualification for his side, and also ended his 3-game goal drought in the league.
Tottenham’s defeat of City, now sees 2nd placed Liverpool just six points behind City with a game in hand, and their 3-1 win against struggling Norwich sends a message of intent to the rest of the chasing pack that they are the closest challengers.
