Protest In Abuja Over Buhari’s Delayed Assent To Electoral Bill

A coalition of Civil Society Organisations, CSOs comprising of over 24 groups on Tuesday converged on the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja to protest President Muhammadu Buhari’s delayed assent to the re-worked Electoral Bill.

The protesters, who converged on the Unity Fountain in their numbers on Tuesday morning, were seen be heading to the National Assembly Complex.

They were sighted with different placards containing different inscriptions such as “Buhari Sign Electoral Bill Now”, “Prevent Election Rigging”, “The Bill Protects the Voting Rights of PWDS”, “Buhari Save Our Democracy”, among others.

Meanwhile, the presidency had earlier in the morning assured Nigerians that President Buhari would in a matter of hours sign the bill which was transmitted on January 31, 2022, into law.

Special Adviser to President Buhari on Media and Publicity Mr Femi Adesina gave the assurance when he featured on Channels Television programme, Sunrise Daily.

As at past noon the president was, however, yet to sign the bill which would frustrate some identified loopholes that allow election manipulation.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Adesina had on Monday also issued a statement ahead of the protest on the delayed assent to the Electoral Bill assuring that the president would do the right thing.
