Akwa Ibom Senate Seat: Gov Emmanuel Sacks Chief Of Staff
Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has sacked his chief of staff, Mr. Ephraim Inyang-Eyen, his once powerful political trouble shooter.
Mr. Inyang-Eyen who served as commissioner for works in the first term of the governor and acquired a reputation for throwing muscles in the hunt of the governor’s foes was, however, considered brash by some other supporters of the governor.
He had recently commenced moves to position himself for the Eket South Senate seat, a position presently held by a lady.
It is not known if the governor who is rounding up his second term next year is also interested in the seat, but there were reports that the governor had asked him not to declare his interest in the seat. Inyang-Eyen, however, defied the order two days ago when he publicly showed his interest in the seat.
In the letter of dismissal issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Iyang-Eyen was ordered to hand over all government property in his possession.
The letter read thus:
SSG/AKS/S/200/VOL.1/406 22 February, 2022
Akparawa Ephraim Inyang-eyen,
Office of the Chief of Staff to Governor,
Governor’s Office Complex,
1 Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo
Dear Sir,
APPRECIATION OF YOUR SERVICE
On behalf of His Excellency, the Governor, government and the good people
of Akwa Ibom State, I write to convey to you His Excellency, the Governor’s
profound appreciation of the worthy contributions you made to the development
of our dear State while you served as Chief of Staff to the Governor.
However, given the urgent need to match skill set and
competencies to the task of maintaining the momentum ofÂ
economic development in peace, your services are no longer required and
you are hereby relieved of your position, as Chief of Staff ( CoS)Â to His
Excellency, the Governor with immediate effect. You are therefore directed to
handover all property of government in your possession, to the Secretary to
State Government.
Please, accept the assurances of His Excellency, the Governor’s goodwill
and highest regards as you proceed to other endeavours.
Signed
Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem
Secretary to State Government
Stakeholders would be watching to see if the sack of the Akwa Ibom governor’s chief of staff would deter him from his Senate pursuit.Â
