Bruno Fernandes Breaks Beckham’s Record In Man United’s Tie Against Atletico Madrid

Manchester United’s talisman Bruno Fernandes broke a club record for the Red Devils as he became the first player in UEFA Champions League history to assist in six consecutive appearances while playing for an English club, breaking the record held by David Beckham since 1998.

The Portuguese midfielder had a quiet day at the office for his side, but as he has done consecutively for two years and a half since joining United from Sporting, he produced the clutch moment of the game setting up Anthony Elanga to score the equaliser at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The Red Devils managed to rescue a draw against Atletico Madrid with a late strike after falling a goal behind via a brilliant diving header from Joao Felix, who scored his first Champions League goal of the season.

Diego Simeone, who tipped the visitors to be one of the best teams in the world currently, lined up his Atletico Madrid side very strongly but also left room for question as he left out Luis Suarez and Antoinne Griezmann who both have extreme European experience.

The gamble paid off for El Cholo as both teams played out a 1-1 draw, leaving the tie wide open with all to play for in the second leg at Old Trafford come March.

However, Bruno Fernandes registered his 7th assist in the Champions League this season and his 14th in all competitions, after playing a beautifully timed through ball to 19-year-old Anthony Elanga to score United’s 500th goal in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League. That assist now sees the midfield maestro top the assist chart in this season’s tournament by a rather large margin.
