Anxiety As Oba Of Benin Visits Obasanjo

Praise has been coming the way of President Olusegun Obasanjo after pictures of him receiving the highly revered Oba of Benin, Ewuare II in the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, OOPL came to light at the weekend. The praise was, however, tempered with anxiety as many observed that it was unusual for the Oba to visit a mortal.

 GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the Benin monarch has been revered across the country and the world for keeping to tradition and not gallivanting about unlike many other traditional rulers who go about to almost every occasion they are invited.

The visit to the three-time Nigeria leader by the Oba of Benin to President Obasanjo’s Presidential residence in Abeokuta came in the course of the visit of the Benin monarch to Ogun State where he was being hosted by the Alake of Ebga Land.

The Oba of Benin who was a career diplomat before his retirement from the Nigerian diplomatic service was retained by President Obasanjo as ambassador to Angola

 GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the Oba of Benin arrived at the home of the former president with his entourage in the company of his host, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo III – The Alake of Egba Land, Oba Saburee Babajide Isola Bakre, the Agura of Gbagura, The President of Abeokuta Club – Chief Tokunbo Odebunmi and the UK High Commissioner, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola.

The Benin monarch used the opportunity to congratulate President Obasanjo ahead of his 85th Birthday coming up by God’s grace on 5th of March.

Social media commentators while applauding the two great men as they met, however, brought to fore insinuations that the Oba of Benin does not visit ordinary mortals.

Obviously, the king has high regards for OBJ. Extremely rare for Oba of Benin leaving his kingdom to pay a visit to any mortal.

Obasanjo is aging graciously. If not for the grace of God he would have died even while he was in jail. Don’t evn be surprise he might still make heaven despite all his short comings, if truly he has given his life to christ.
