How ‘Male Illiterates’ In National Assembly Killed Gender Bills – Group
By GWG Political Editor
National chairperson of Women In Politics Forum, WIPF, Ebere Ifendu, has dismissed the male dominated National Assembly as populated by illiterates who were ignorant of the essence of the gender bills they voted against on Wednesday.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the two Chambers of the National Assembly threw out gender focused bills during the voting on Constitution amendment bills on Tuesday.
Among the proposals rejected on Tuesday were that to grant citizenship to foreign born women married to Nigerian men and proposals to provide quota for women in Parliament and in the leadership of political parties.
Ifendu speaking on AIT Kaakaki prograon Wednesday, rebuffed insinuations that the legislators drew inspiration from President Muhammadu Buhari over his famous assertion in Berlin that his wife’s place is in the other room.
Rebuffing the claim that the members of the 9th National Assembly drew their wickedness from themselves and not the president, she said that First Lady Aisha Buhari has been all about speaking on political issues unrestrained by the president.
“What I am saying is that what happened was illiteracy. How can anyone be saying that they don’t want citizenship for women? It was really illiteracy,” she said in blaming supposed illiterates who stopped the gender bills in the National Assembly.
“Some of them even co-sponosored the bill, but turned around to vote against it showing their chauvinism, she said.
She vowed that women groups around the country had commenced mobilisation țo throw such men out of Parliament.
