A social media user, @General_Oluchi in a Twitter post brought the news of their sack to public fore in a series of tweets.
She tweeted, “Chicken republic sacking those security guys for dancing simply shows that it’s a crime to be happy in Nigeria. What crimes was committed by dancing? Pilots, doctors, chefs etc., dance at work. Even world leaders who joined TikTok has been recorded dancing. What’s the big deal?
“If they didn’t want them dancing at work, they should have warned them, not to terminate their employment.
In reaction to her post, some Twitter users doubled down that the security guards were rightfully fired, as they were supposed to be focused on duty, while some other users slammed the high-handedness involved in their sack.
Here are some reactions gathered by GreenWhiteGreen
@Great_Ye10 Imagining Pilot dancing on board or doctor dancing inside the theater hmmm . We aren’t ready for the out come .
@NickOsaghae There is a preamble of the Word security, a job is not a place you come to to explore your happiness. How can you be dancing bam bam on duty.
@NewtonIkire Where they employed as dancers? When I’m at Chicken Republic, I love to have a quiet time, with their muzak turned down low. Let’s turn off unnecessary sentiments
@GoodMustyLife Security is security if anything goes wrong you will blame their employer for allowing them to dance
@phoenixandblacq I would have berated the guys for dance that much, but the mere fact that they were still conscious enough to open the door when a customer was approaching exempts them. The most that was supposed to be done was for the management to correct them not sack or remove them.
@ErhaborCollins Okay First of all, I know these guys were not employed directly by Chicken Republic. However CR can still step in for them if truly they had nothing against them entertaining customers at work. An Employee’s mental health matters a lot, if you want them to be productive.
