Manchester City re-established a six-point cushion at the top of the Premier League with a 4-1 victory over their fierce rivals Manchester United, becoming the first time that the noisy neighbours would secure a league double over United since 2018/2019.

The pressure was on Manchester City here, with a relentless Liverpool chasing them down in the title race. However, City handled the pressure with a perfect start at the Etihad scoring the opening goal of the game through Kevin De Bruyne who rifled home from close range. With City boasting an incredible 20-0 record when scoring first this season, United faced an uphill task but took it on and levelled the scores midway through the first half with a swift counter that was brilliantly finished by Jadon Sancho who curled in from a splendid pass.

City continued to land several blows on United and they restored their lead through another De Bruyne strike minutes before the break. It was all about control from City in the second half as they strolled to a resounding 4-1 win with Riyad Mahrez netting a brace. City now six points clear at the top and in the driving seat to win yet another Premier League title, while on the other hand, defeat now sees United drop to 5th position and are one point behind Arsenal who have three games in hand.
