Akwa Ibom 2023: Umo Eno, Four Others, Set To Leave Cabinet
Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has concluded plans to reshuffle his cabinet with the imminent exit of his chosen successor, Pastor Umo Eno and four others.
Udom disclosed the reshuffle plan in a press statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Mr Ini Ememobong, after its State Executive Council meeting in Uyo on Thursday.
He said that five commissioners would be dropped from the State Executive Council as names for new commissioners would be forwarded to the House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
He, however, did not give the reason for the exit of the five commissioners.
However, GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the new Electoral Act stipulates that political appointees step down from office before the onset of the primary election season.
Pastor Umo Eno who is presently the state commissioner for lands and water resources is expected to step down in accordance with the stipulation. The names of the others have not been disclosed.
However, two other commissioners had previously resigned. Mr Akan Okon, who was the commissioner for Economic Development and Deep Sea Port had stepped down in readiness for his bid to challenge Umo Eno for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP ticket.
The exit of the Eno and the four others from the cabinet is expected to indicate a formal commencement of the campaign season in Akwa Ibom.
Ememobong said that the Council also reviewed the ongoing strike by the Nigerian Union of Teachers in the state and directed that the relevant ministries should take necessary steps to resolve the problem immediately.
The commissioner for information said that Council was briefed on update on all ongoing projects by the various supervising commissioners of the state.
He said that concerned commissioners were charged to ensure speedy completion of the jobs under their care and to submit the dates for inauguration of all their projects.
Ememobong said that update on the implementation of the Human Resource Management System Project was presented to the Council by the Head of the Civil Service. (NAN)
