Confusion In Delta APC Over Ogboru’s Defection
Confusion over the political inclinations of Chief Great Ogboru is spreading in Delta State after the serial governorship candidate came out to deny claims of his defection from the All Progressives Congress, APC.
His denial came amid subdued celebration in the camp of the mainstream of the party which had been enthused by the news of his exit from the party.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Ogboru has been in discord with his one time ally, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege with whom they joined the party together pre-2019, and also jointly captured the soul of the party from former leader, Olorogun Otega Emerhor.
However, following what some alleged as a supremacy battle between both men, Ogboru teamed up the Festus Keyamo led Delta APC Elders Council, to upturn Omo-Agege’s ascendancy but failed.
That failure had inspired talk of Ogboru, famously labelled as the Peoples General, leaving the APC. There were speculations that he had joined the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP now branded after Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.
It is alleged that Ogboru would run as vice-presidential candidate to Kwankwaso in their new party.
Ogboru has, however, denied the claim telling Niger Delta Today that the news of his defection was a rumour.
“It’s rumour. I’m still in APC. If I am leaving APC, I will make it public. I’m still an authentic APC member. Just forget the rumour.”
However, despite his insistence, the Omo-Agege led tendency has been quick to latch on to the rumours describing Ogboru’s possible defection as good riddance.
The APC State Director of Publicity, Dr Wilson Omene in a statement made available to GreenWhiteGreen GWG described Ogboru’s carriage as delusionary describing him as a failed Peoples General.
“Ogboru sees himself as the wisest and most successful politician on earth. So wise, he, against every wise advice, insisted on boycotting APC’s congresses but still thinks the same party must gift its soul to him to trade with again for personal gains in 2023, as it was in 2019.
“Ogboru prides himself as the most successful ‘peoples general’ in Nigeria’s political history for barely winning 2 Local Government Areas (out of 25) in the last general elections. It is noteworthy that the senatorial candidate in that general elections won 5 Local Government Areas (out of 8). A ‘peoples general’ who runs out of his party for fear of ordinary primaries and the reality of the possibility of being rightly denied a chance to profit from aspirants and the party.
“Yet, Ogboru deludes himself in the statement under reference as one “dominant force” who must be sheepishly obeyed as an ‘uncommanded commander’ by all leaders of APC, including President Muhammadu Buhari. Sickening empty self-pride!
“It is regrettable that Ogboru has chosen to lose himself so unashamedly. At least, he ought to know that there is no chance whatsoever for him to make any impact in the politics of 2023 outside the APC, but he is typically bent on destroying destinies once again by playing God Almighty. Ogboru will not succeed on that mission.
“Enough of Ogboru’s shenanigans. Let everyone be at peace. APC will win and win convincingly without this self-appointed Messiah who does not just know what is coming ahead. Good riddance,” the party said in reaction to the news of the defection of Ogboru, the APC’s 2019 governorship candidate.
