Bruno Fernandes Calls On Manchester United Players To Raise Standard

Bruno Fernandes has told his Manchester United teammates to raise the ‘standard’ of the club after their disappointing 1-1 draw with Leicester on Saturday.

In a crucial match in their chase for Champions League qualification, the Red Devils fell behind to Kelechi Iheanacho’s strike before Fred equalised. They were somewhat fortunately saved by VAR when James Maddison looked to have scored the winner.

Manchester United remain sixth, three points off Arsenal, who have played two games fewer ahead of their trip to Crystal Palace on Monday night. Fellow contenders Tottenham could also move further away from United with victory over Newcastle on Sunday.

Manchester United now have just one win from their last four Premier League games and Fernandes called on his teammates to raise their game ahead of the run-in.

“Everyone is disappointed,” he told MUTV. “This result was not the result that we want but there is nothing we can do now.

“We have to look ahead to the next game and understand that the standard of this club has to be higher and better, and we know that we are capable of that.

“You have to think about winning every game we have going forward.

“But now, we need to be thinking about the next one and not rushing too much because we have to think game by game.”

With Cristiano Ronaldo ruled out through illness, Fernandes was tasked with leading United’s attack against the Foxes. However, they were not fluent at Old Trafford and needed Fred to break from midfield to get them back into the game after Iheanacho’s opener.

Ralf Rangnick’s side are back in action next Saturday when they visit lowly Everton at Goodison Park.
