Chelsea To Meet Liverpool In FA Cup Final After Overcoming Stubborn Crystal Palace
By GWG Football Editor
Chelsea rode over a stubborn Crystal Palace side into the FA Cup finals on Sunday, courtesy of two second-half goals in Wembley.
After a less than impressive superiority in the first half, Chelsea resumed the second half with near complete command of play but with little to show. That was until the 66th minute when the break through came through former Chelsea loanee to Crystal Palace, Loftus-Cheek changed the narrative with a powerful strike.
Chelsea had broken down through the right flank towards the Crystal Palace goal area and Kai Havertz had shot into the area but it was deflected back for a waiting Loftus-Cheek who hits a strike that is slightly deflected into the Crystal Palace goal.
The second goal came nine minutes later in the 75th minute from Mason Mount courtesy of an assist from man of the match Timo Werner.
Chelsea mounted more pressure but were repeatedly denied including a 90th minute hit at the goal post by Romeu Lukaku.
With the victory over Crystal Palace, Chelsea now go on to meet Liverpool in the FA finals in what promises to be an uphill task for the ownerless Chelsea who are still in the midst of finding an owner following sanctions against Roman Abramovich.
