Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has won the approval of the Governance Advisory Council, GAC to bid for a second term in office and as such putting to a halt rumours about his prospects.
The approval was given at a meeting of the GAC at the State House, Marina on Monday afternoon.
The GAC is the apex body of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in Lagos State and is the ultimate decision making body for all things concerning political issues as pertaining Lagos State irrespective of the constitution of the APC. The body has Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as the unofficial leader of the body.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that there had lately been wild speculations as to the prospects of Sanwo-Olu for a second term as political pundits speculated on the governor being shoved aside within the wider permutations of the presidential aspirations of his godfather, Asiwaju Tinubu.
There were also speculations that Tinubu, who is the leading presidential aspirant, could be persuaded to step down with the offer of presenting his son as governor of Lagos State.
Those rumours which, however, never got any special traction got some wings, however, when some unknown persons circulated posters of his son, Seyi Tinubu running for governor.
With the endorsement, the road is clear for Sanwo-Olu to purchase his nomination ticket and formally begin the campaign for re-election.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that his predecessor, Akinwunmi Ambode who was believed to have performed moderately was turned back from re-election after the powerful GAC rejected him and endorsed Sanwo-Olu.
Ambode was rejected upon claims of haughtiness to the GAC members with allegations that he was not picking the phone calls of the members of the council. He was also accused of undermining party patronages through his cancellation of the refuse collection contracts that was seen as a patronage for members of the party.
Ambode, however, defied the GAC and picked the renomination form but lost by a big margin in the primaries.
