Christopher Nkunku: Top Clubs Pursue Europe’s Hottest Winger

RB Leipzig’s forward Christopher Nkunku has been the cynosure of attention among football buffs this season. The winger has been red-hot for the German Bundesliga side, exhibiting his flair, pace, vision and predatory instincts in front of goal.

The 24-year-old has nudged up 30 goals and 18 assists in 43 games, amassing a total of 48 goal contributions which is the most for a French player and is also the 4th highest for most goal contributions across Europe’s top five leagues this season.

The Frenchman’s exploits has also skyrocketed RB Leipzig to a place in the last four of Europa League where they face Frankfurt. He scored a brace in the quarterfinal against Atalanta to book a semi-final spot for his team.

He is also the third highest goal scorer in the Bundesliga with 17 goals, and despite Leipzig’s short lived spell in the Champions League, Nkunku still managed 7 goals in only the group stage, with his hat-trick against Manchester City the pick of the bunch.

However, his impressive run of form this campaign has caught the eye of various European heavyweights and his signature is now the most sought after in next season’s window. Here are three clubs who are the frontrunners to sign Christopher Nkunku next season;

• Manchester United:

The 2021-22 campaign has been ugly for the Red Devils and their undermining performances most notably in front of goal has forced them into the search for a forward in Summer’s transfer window. Interim Coach Ralf Ragnick is a huge admirer of players at RB Leipzig and Nkunku will definitely be a target for the German. However, the imminent arrival of Erik Ten Hag as the new manager at Old Trafford is also a boost in this transfer rumour, given that the Dutchman has a preference for young players.

• Chelsea:

Thomas Tuchel’s Blues are also in the race for the Frenchman’s signature according to multiple sources. And the uncertainty of the future of some players at Chelsea including Christian Pulisic and Timo Werner gives room for the arrival of Nkunku. Tuchel’s style of play based on counter attacking and the French international has loads of pace which the German manager could well do with.

• Paris Saint Germain:

The French Giants are almost linked with all the transfer rumours across world of football and this is no exception. However, their desire to bring back Christopher Nkunku to the French Capital has been evident according to reports.

The Frenchman had a failed spell in the Ligue 1, but he is now rejuvenated under Domenico Tedesco and PSG are his biggest suitors as they hope he will be the replacement for Kylian Mbappe whose departure from the club next season now seems inevitable.
