National Security Adviser (NSA) Babagana Monguno says reports in the media that he accused Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai of revealing classified and confidential information on terrorism are false.

Monguno had on Thursday briefed the media after the Security Council Meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari.

During the briefing he reeled out measures being put in place to tackle the deepening security crisis that plagues the nation.

However, no sooner had he briefed the media than some media outlets reported that Monguno claimed el-Rufai is an albatross to war on terrorism.

Reacting to the said report in a statement on Friday, Zakari Usman, Head of Strategic Communication at the NSA office, said Monguno, a retired Major General, was quoted “out of context”.

“The NSA did not at anytime during the briefing criticize and accuse Governor Nasir El Rufai of divulging classified information”, the statement read.

Usman said the NSA was not referring to the Kaduna helmsman in his comment on the protection of sensitive operational information.

He clarified that Monguno, while responding to a question, cautioned security agents who are “in the habit of revealing unauthorized sensitive operational details”.

The statement said El-Rufai “has been a consistent and exemplary partner to the security sector” and the NSA would not discredit him.
