Former Aides Deny Reports Of Jonathan’s Bid For APC Ticket
Former aides of President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday denied viral social media reports to the effect that the former Nigeria leader was set to declare his aspiration to run for the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Reno Omokri and Reuben Abati who served in different capacities in the Jonathan administration communication units disputed the declaration claims that were remarkably traced to Abati, now an Arise TV anchor and online publisher.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that some news channels had on Sunday quoted Abati as having said that Jonathan was set to declare for the APC’s 2023 presidential race.
The reports were against the background of the circulation of around the country and the Abuja national secretariat of the APC of posters asking Jonathan to declare for the 2023 presidential race.
Besides, the former president had last Saturday while addressing supporters bussed to his Abuja home to declare his interest told them that there were certain issues that were not yet clear and asked them to watch out.
It was against that background that the news reports emerged on social media in which Abati was said to have said that Jonathan would soon declare his interest.
The two former aides of Jonathan were, however, quick to deny the reports of Jonathan having declared for the APC 2023 presidential ticket.
Reno Omokri, while declaring the news as fake, said:
“Disregard the news credited to Reuben Abati that former President Jonathan will soon declare. He never made any statement like that. At best, it is a figment of the imagination of that journalist #FakeNews!”
Abati also retweeted the same:
