Arsenal Told To Pay £100m for Victor Osimhen
By Eze Dike
Arsenal are currently leading the race to sign Nigerian star Victor Osimhen, ahead of the summer transfer window and have been told by Napoli to pay £100m to lure the striker to the Emirates next season.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that a host of Europe’s big names including Manchester United and Chelsea are all in line for the striker’s signature as he continues to impress at Napoli in Serie A.
The Gunners are in search of a number 9 following the imminent departure of captain Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah at the end of the season. Both strikers are out of contract in the summer and have refused to renew their deals. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is a big fan of the 23-year-old Nigerian and he looks to bring him to London to complete the missing piece of his formidable and energetic young group of players.
Arsenal’s North London rivals, Tottenham are also in the race to sign Osimhen as Antonio Conte has been a huge admirer of the Super Eagles star since his time as Inter boss.
The Nigeria international is now worth over the €70m Napoli paid to acquire him from Lille in 2020 and a large reason for that massive market value is his 18 goals across all competitions this campaign making him Napoli’s top goal scorer and a contender for the golden boot in the Serie A.
However, Arsenal have a list of forward options as reports have it that they are also in the race to sign Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus and Benfica’s highly rated striker Darwin Nunes. Osimhen has the edge over the Brazilian in terms of statistics this season but the Nigerian just falls short of the Benfica No 9 who has scored 33 goals in all competitions this term.
