Breaking: Nzeribe Reportedly Dead At 83
Maverick political actor, Senator Arthur Nzeribe, infamously remembered for his role in the abortion of the Third Republic has reportedly died, The Nation reported on Sunday afternoon.
A source from the family, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the incident to the newspaper.
The source hinted the family is preparing a statement to announce the demise of Nzeribe. Just as he was slippery in his lifetime, Nzeribe reportedly died on Saturday evening leaving many unawares.
He, however, has been on life support for a long time and had for long been out of circulation and especially from the political scene.
Nzeribe, a First Republic politician represented Imo West at the National Assembly.
He was the longest serving Senator from Imo State and was involved in many of the controversies that led to the swinging changes that occurred in the Senate from 1999 to 20007.
Born on November 2, 1938, Nzeribe at 22 hit a mega fortune, becoming a major player in the nation’s financial sector.
Providence also smiled on him and he became so powerful and influential in Nigeria’s political landscape first in the Third Republic when he in collaboration with some other shadowy figures worked the crises that frustrated the emergence of Chief MKO Abiola as president after the freest election in Nigeria’s history.
He was subsequently elected a Senator to represent Orlu in 1999.
