Ebonyi Insecurity: Rev Father Released From Prison
The Catholic Church Diocese of Abakaliki has confirmed the release of Rev Father Timothy Ngwuta who had been in prison over his alleged involvement in the spate of insecurity in Ebonyi State.
He had been held in detention since December 2021 first being held by the police before he was subsequently transferred to the Nigeria Correctional Service Centre, Abakaliki.
He was specifically accused of involvement in the Effium – Ezza Effium fratricide.
A statement issued in Abakaliki on Saturday, Rev. Fr. Mathew Uzoma, Chancellor, Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki, commended the public for its support while the Church sought freedom for Rev. Fr. Ngwuta.
“We thank all for your prayerful support and to those who allowed themselves to be used either remotely or directly as instruments towards the realisation of the goal. You all made it happen.
“We still rely on your assistance as we go through the court process towards vindicating Rev. Fr. Ngwuta of spurious charges levelled against him,’’ Rev. Fr. Uzoma stated of the release of the Rev Father from prison over the allegation of involvement in the insecurity in Ebonyi State.
Meanwhile, the Mrs Ngozi Nwude-Nduka, Administrator at Integral Development Consult, Awka, Anambra State has said its centre for the ongoing Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Examination would not open to its candidates for examinations on Monday on account of the ongoing sit at home order.
Nwude-Nduka said that the centre which had held six sessions of the JAMB examination since it commenced on May 6, had not recorded any technical hitches.
The JAMB official said that the management had no security challenges or reasons to shut down the centre to the examination candidates since the process started but would shut down its centre down on Monday, May 9 due to the sit at home being observed in Anambra.
