Afemai Group Asks Oshiomhole To Drop Senate Ambition
The Afemai leaders of thought have called on the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to step out of the Edo North Senatorial race for what they claim as the overall interest of Edo State and Edo North in general.
According to them, any political party that will bring both Adams Oshiomhole and his younger brother Seid Oshiomhole into the field in the General Election will lose. The era of godfatherism and family dominance of governance is gone and cannot be reinvented in Edo State, they said in a statement made available to GreenWhiteGreen GWG.
They further described the ongoing rumour that Seid Oshiomhole has stepped down from the House of Assembly race as a political gimmick to arm twist the generality of the people.
The leaders in a statement issued by the Afemai Society in Diaspora Signed by Benedict Agbokaide, warned the All Progressive Congress (APC) leadership against producing two legislators from one family saying the people of Edo cannot be fooled in the general election. “If the Party has their way in the Primary election, we the Masses will have our way with our PVC in the main election to vote against them.
“We make this call in our desire to preserve, sustain and deepen democracy in Afemai land as it were. We desire that all Afemai Politicians in the various Political Parties put our collective interest above their personal feelings”.
“We are all disturbed by the current tension in Edo North occasioned by the Senatorial ambition of Adams Oshiomhole even when his younger brother has been given an automatic ticket to return to the State House of Assembly in the same Senatorial district in the same party. The old thinking and way of doing things won’t work in Edo State. Any Political Party that fields both Oshiomhole and his younger brother on the same APC platform is doomed to failure in the general election,” the Afemai group said.
The leaders maintained that Edo North does not need leaders whose mindsets are rooted in the past, while the problems are unfolding in the future. We must decide whether we want to build development or build a family dynasty.
“We condemn all manner of selection to represent parochial family interests which is detrimental to the general interests of the Afemai people. Afemai is not a family share-holding affair they warned.”
